CK United 5 Bray Wanderers 4

In their final LOI Academy MU20 Tier Two (South) game of the season, Bray’s U20’s went down away to CK United in a nine-goal thriller.
Fielding a very much understrength team – with no less than ten of the squad featuring for the first outfit away to Cobh on Friday – the Green and White’s lost narrowly 5-4 on Saturday evening at the Valley in Ballon.
The reverse fixture saw Wanderers win 3-1 at Ballycorus last August. That was the score-line at half time this time round in favour of the home side.
The visitors battled back to 3-3 after the break only to be reduced to ten men before United went 5-3 up in the closing stages.
Carlow/Kilkenny took a third minute lead through Dylan Murphy’s 20-yard free-kick.
But Wanderers restored parity in the 25th minute.
Daniel Chukwu put in a cross that arrived at Dylan Ryan’s feet. The winger then hit a superb right footed 15-yard drive into the roof of the net.
Yet, as the game opened up, Jerry Collins put the hosts 2-1 ahead in the 36th minute before a Jack Ellis’ own goal made it 3-1 in first half stoppage time.
Bray regrouped and pulled open back in the 61st minute through Philip Cooney.
They then equalised in the 73rd minute when Stefan Ugbesia found the net.
However, the Wicklow outfit were reduced to ten players in the 83rd minute when Cooney picked up a second yellow card.
United made it 4-3 in the 85th minute with Murphy on the mark again.
Home substitute Eoin Sheppard then scored their fifth in the 88th minute.
Wanderers hit back three minutes into time added on as Sean McMahon found the net.
But time ran out to find the elusive score that would have earned a point.
