Bray Wanderers 1 Shelbourne 2

Bray’s five-game unbeaten run in the U20 LOI Academy Tier Two (South) came to an end when section leaders Shelbourne grabbed an injury time winner.
With a point the very least the home side deserved, away captain Cian Doyle popped up with the crucial score in the 92nd minute at the Woodlands in Greystones on Saturday afternoon.
Having lost the reverse fixture back in August 3-1 at the AUL Complex, the Seasiders had an early opportunity to take the lead.
Billy O’Neill won possession as an away defender tried to sheppard the ball back to Jamie Gamble in the seventh minute. The striker and the keeper challenged with O’Neill’s shot being blocked. The loose ball saw Philip Cooney burst in the box. He was clipped as he shot with the ball hitting the outside of the post.
However, referee Patrick Roche awarded a penalty.
But from Cooney’s spot-kick, Gamble touched the ball on the upright.
The Reds then took a 39th minute lead.
Doyle sent a free from the right onto the danger zone, with Harvey Warren scoring with a back post header.
Yet, the Green and White’s restored parity in the 41st minute.
Wide left near the corner flag, Rhys Kight delivered a free-kick. U17 Republic of Ireland international O’Neill jumped between two opponents and headed in from close range.
There was contentious call midway through the second period. O’Neill went down with a head injury when caught by Warren’s high boot.
Although a free-kick was awarded, there was no further punishment by the match officials for the defender who had had been yellow carded in the first half.
Just when it seemed the contest would end in a share of the spoils, Doyle picked up possession two minutes into time added on. And fired superbly to the net from outside the box.
