Galway United 5 Bray Wanderers 3
Despite a second half revival, Bray suffered a first LOI Academy MU17 Tier Two (South) away defeat on Wednesday evening.
After going in 3-0 down after the first period at Athenry FC against leaders Galway, Wanderers rallied to get back to 4-2 before the Tribesmen sealed the points late on in the 5-3 win.
Despite starting lively, the Seagulls missed a few good chances. This combined with a lack-lustre first half allowed the home team settle into the game and race into a 3-0 lead at the interval after goals by Eoin Gacquin (22) and a Scott Davitt double (36 and 40).
Four substitutions at half time added renewed life to the visiting team, but the game became very open in the second period.
The Green and White’s pulled the game back to 3-1 when Sean Hennelly finished smartly in the 47th minute.
But Galway restored their three-goal cushion in the 58th minute through Jack Sweeney.
Ronan Dawson then scored his third goal in as many games to make it 4-2 with a quarter of a hour remaining.
United sub Daniel Lynch found the net late on. Before the final whistle, away sub Isaac Millington scored his first for the club from the penalty spot.
Bray Wanderers: Alex Forde; Conor Lougheed, Ronan Dawson, Luke Smith, Bailey Shelley; Aidan Kane, Alain Kizenga; Bradley Byrne, Kian Dowling, Sean Hennelly; Billy O'Neill.
Subs: Ryan Owens, Max Free, Flynn Ryan, Cristiano Bramley, Eric Schutte, Isaac Millington, David Winkler.
