Bray Wanderers 2 UCD 4
In an end to end tie, Bray suffered a 4-2 home loss to EA SPORTS MU17 LOI Group A leaders UCD.
The ‘College led 2-0 midway through the first half on Sunday afternoon at the Carlisle Grounds.
But Wanderers rallied with a series of chances before the interval only to be denied by away stopper and Bray native Noah Douglas.
When the teams met at Marley Park last month, the Student’s won 5-1.
It appeared they could repeat that result by taking a fifth minute lead as Sean Murphy rose highest to head in Kahl Murphy’s corner.
Away attacker Hugh Martin struck the post on 22. But the visitors doubled their advantage moments later.
A goal-kick was intercepted. From the left, Nathan O’Neill played in Ben Mahon who curled to the far corner from just inside the box.
Wanderers almost hit back on the half hour. After a great run and cut-back off the right byline by Cristiano Bramley, Flynn Ryan saw his low effort kicked around the post by Douglas’ save.
The same trio were involved again five minutes later. But again, after Bramley teed up Ryan, Douglas made the save,
The in the 38th minute, the UCD netminder brought off a double save to deny both Bramley then Isaac Millington.
The third score was always going to direct the rest of the match. It went the away teams way in the 53 minute.
From Murphy’s short corner, O’Neill crossed for substitute Jonathan Nuzum to volley in.
The Green and White’s responded in the 64th minute. Bramley pounced on a back-pass to race clear and slot to the net.
But the Student’s made it 4-1 on 68 as Luca Kelly cut in off the right flank to fire to the net.
With 13 minutes of normal time remaining, Bramley again reacted to a loose back pass. He got in front of a defender and tried to round Douglas. But was held up by the custodian. Yet the striker turned and curled to the net from 14-yards.
