Bray Wanderers 2 Galway United 2
Bray played out a competitive U17 LOI Academy MU17 Tier Two (South) draw with leaders Galway.
United took an early lead at Ballycorus on Sunday afternoon. But the Seasiders replied with two goals in four minutes to go in 2-1 up at the break.
However, the Tribesmen grabbed a second half equaliser to earn a hard-fought 2-2 stalemate.
When the teams met last July in Athenry, the Connacht side won 5-3. They appeared to be on their to a league double over the Wicklow team by taking a ninth minute lead.
Scott Davitt’s initial ninth minute centre from the right byline was blocked. His second delivery picked out Jack Sweeney who side-stepped a tackle to slot in low from close range.
But the Green and White’s response was swift.
Sean Hennelly pounced on a back pass in the 12th minute and was brought down by away goalkeeper MacDarragh Scanlon. The attacker picked himself up to convert the penalty.
Then Wanderers hit the front in the 16th minute.
Skipper Ethan Cheese slipped in Conor Lougheed along the right touchline. The full-back drilled low into thr danger zone. The ball was narrowly missed by Isaac Millington. But coming in behind, Cristiano Bramley got ahead of a defender to slide the ball in from four yards out.
Galway rallied to make it 2-2 in the 71st minute.
In a sweeping move from left in their own half to the right of Wanderers’ half, a couple of one touches passes set up substitute Mehdi Moulaoui to curl in a low placed left-footed effort from 20-yards.
