Derry City 1 Bray Wanderers 3
Bray produced a memorable comeback win to advance to the last 16 of the EA Sports Michael Hayes MU15 Cup.
The Wicklow side fell 1-0 behind early on at the Shared Village on Saturday in the first round tie.
Bit responded to go in level at the break at 1-1.
Derry then had a player sent off in the second half, with Wanderers taking full advantage of the extra player to claim a 3-1 victory.
City started the game on the front foot and had a number of half chances as well as bringing two saves out of Wanderers goalkeeper Elliot Homan.
The Candystripes’ opener came in the nine minute when an in-swinging corner saw Derry striker Michael McColgan unmarked six yards out and he duly applied the finish.
But the young Seagulls were soon back on level terms.
A flowing move from back to front in the 19th minute saw Conor Cunningham deliver a low cross that found an onrushing Kyle Jackson who rifled in the equaliser.
The second half saw the Green and White’s exert some more authority.
But it wasn’t until the 65th minute when Daniel Oluwadara Olusola was hauled down by the last covering home defender when clean through, leaving the referee little option but to show the red card.
Almost immediately, Alex Mernagh struck a brilliant free-kick to the net to put the Garden County outfit 2-1 up.
The success was sealed four minutes into stoppage time.
Derry committed their nine outfield players forward for a corner. The ball broke to Olusola.
He ran box to box unopposed, squared the ball to his supporting runner Fionnan O’Snodaigh with the substitute rolling the ball into an empty net - much to the delight of the travelling support.
Bray Wanderers: Elliot Homan; Jamie Lynch, Ryan Higgins, Kristofer Marku, Rhys Behan; Lewis Brady, Alex Mernagh; Cillian Walsh, Conor Cunningham, Kyle Jackson; Daniel Oluwadara Olusola.
Subs: Olivier Gnutek, Zac Lawlor, Senan Dutton, Fionnan O'Snodaigh, Shane O'Dowd.
* Elsewhere in the competition, Bohemians, St. Patrick’s Athletic, Treaty United, Shelbourne, Drogheda United and Galway United all advanced from the first round stage.
