Bray Wanderers 7 CK United 1
A 13-minute hat-trick by Charlie Byrne in the opening third powered Bray to a 7-1 U15 EA SPORTS LOI Academy MU15 League 2024 Phase 2 – Tier Two (South) victory.
Unbeaten at home so far in the competition, Wanderers led 3-1 at the opening period; 4-1 in the middle third before netting three more times in the final third on Tuesday evening at Ballycorus to see off CK United.
After Alexander Emakhu and Karl Ralph struck the post and crossbar off Harry Grainger’s fourth minute corner, the hosts broke the dead-lock in the eighth minute.
Having cleared a United corner, the Wicklow team broke. Off the right flank, Emakhu’s measured chipped pass over the top saw Byrne get there ahead of away goalkeeper Conor Hancock and loft into an open goal from 15-yards.
It became 2-0 in the 18th minute.
Charlie Quinn won a tackle to win possession wide left. He burst into the box and cut the ball back were Byrne side footed in from 12-yards.
The striker completed his treble in the 20th minute.
Again, Quinn crossed from the left. The ball was only cleared to Byrne who expertly found the far top right corner of the net with a curling finish inside the penalty area.
The visitors pulled one back in the 24th minute.
A corner went deep. Two shots were blocked with Kai McSwiggan saving one. But Alex Murphy bundled the follow up over the line close in.
Having spurned a series of chances inside the opening quarter hour of the second third, the Green and White’s went 4-1 ahead in the 48th minute.
Sean Howard sprayed play out to the left flank for Byrne to chase down. On the corner of the box, he passed sub Daniel Oluwadara Olusola whose deft flick was latched onto by Howard. He evaded a tackle before angling a low left footed finish into the far bottom right corner of the net from 12-yards.
The final third was only two minutes old when Wanderers notched a fifth.
From a long lob up the middle, substitute Etan Kelly got behind the CK defence and superbly lobbed in from just inside the 18-yard area.
The Seagulls then finished with a flourish.
Substitute Oisin Kennedy slipped fellow sub Daniel Oluwadara Olusola in off the ‘D in the 86th minute – with the attacker slotting in low from ten-yards with a poked effort.
Then in the 90th minute, Kennedy was the provider again.
This time, his delivery from the left found fellow reserve Jamie Lynch on the far right corner of the six-yard box. And he rolled in a first time side-foot back across goal.
