Bray Wanderers 10 Cobh Ramblers 1
Super sub Charlie Byrne came off the bench to claim a hat-trick as Bray started Phase 2 Tier 2 of the U15 EA Sports LOI with a bang.
At a rain swept Ballycorus on Saturday afternoon, Wanderers scored three times in the latter stages of the second third.
Then found the net on five occasions in the final third as the floodgates opened against a luckless Cobh.
The Green and White’s took a 14th minute lead when a left wing cross was only cleared to the waiting Alexander Emakhu who lashed to the net from the edge of the box.
But Ramblers levelled less than a minute later.
Kai McSwiggan made a parried save off a right-wing cross shot. But Donnchadh Dingivan followed up to bundle the ball over the line.
Wanderers restored their lead in the 28th minute when Harry Grainger expertly fired in a 25-yard free-kick.
The contest was poised until the 55th minute when three quick fires scored put the hosts 5-1 up at the end of the second third.
The substitute pairing of Ethan Kelly and Byrne combined to make 3-1.
Seconds later, Karl Ralph notched the fourth with a cracking lofted 25-yard shot. Then in stoppage time, Sean Howard smacked in a stinging 16-yard half volley.
The final third was less than a minute old when Kelly drove in from just inside the penalty area.
Then in the 63rd minute, Byrne squared from the right of the box with a Ramblers player diverting the ball over his own line.
Byrne rolled into an unguarded goal on 69 after a defensive error.
Howard then curled in a fine 30-yard free on 72.
Byrne completed his treble on 78 when volleying in Emakhu’s centre from the right flank.
