Bray Wanderers 0 St. Patrick’s Athletic 3
The concession of goals early and late in the opening period of 30 minutes saw Bray bow out of the LOI EA Sports U14 Eddie Wallace Cup at the Quarter Final stage.
Wanderers created several chances in the middle third under glorious sunshine on Sunday afternoon at the Carlisle Grounds, including hitting the bar and the post.
But a counterattack right at the end of the second period of 30 minutes saw the Saints advance to the Semi Finals.
The two teams had met back in July in the Group stages of the competition, with Wanderers winning 4-2 TU Dublin in Blanchardstown
This time round, the Dubliner’s who took a fifth minute lead.
Adam Mooney sprayed a long ball from his own half to the left of the Bray half. A home defensive coming together allowed Ahmed Ali the opportunity to run the ball into an open goal.
The Saints doubled their advantage in the 26th minute.
From a comer, the hosts appealed for a foul on goalkeeper Dylan O’Neill. Play continued as Jake McGuinness headed goalwards. Gethin Evans Davies then got a touch to divert the ball to the net close in.
The Seasiders were much improved after the first turnaround.
After a 35th minute scramble, substitute Sean Goggin lifted his close range effort just over the bar.
Then in the 50th minute, Liam Richardson’s cross from the right was only cleared to the waiting Nathan Roberts Byrne.
The striker struck a left footed half volley that crashed back off the underside of the bar and down before the goal line before being cleared to safety.
Two minutes later, Roberts Byrne’s left flank run and centre set-up Goggin. But Jakub Kowalewski made a point blank save on the line.
Just on the hour, Goggin drifted in off the right. He hit a dipping 20-yard left footed shot that struck the bottom of the far left post and bounced back into play.
Seconds later at the other end, St. Pat’s made it 3-0.
In a breakaway. Conor Hudson unleased a 22-yard right footed effort that found the far left top corner of the net.
In the final third period, Bray sub keeper Ross Kavanagh pulled off a cracking reaction stop of the line on the 70th minute to thwart away sub Jack Corcoran.
Home sub Drew Mernagh went close to an 87th minute consolation. But dragged his low attempt from the edge of the box wide of the target.
