A Rainy Day For The Seagulls At Ferrycarrig Park
Wexford FC 2-1 Bray Wanderers
SSE Airtricity Men's First Division – Monday, 3 August 2026
Bray Wanderers fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat away to Wexford FC at Ferrycarrig Park on Monday evening, with the hosts holding on for all three points despite finishing the game with nine men in difficult, rain-soaked conditions.
The home side made the brighter start and took the lead after ten minutes when Mikie Rowe found the back of the net. Bray looked to respond well and created a number of promising opportunities before the break, with Ben McCormack coming closest on several occasions, but the equalizer proved elusive.
Wexford extended their advantage in the 24th minute after being awarded a penalty, which Rowe converted to make it 2-0.
The Seagulls responded immediately and were back in the contest just minutes later. Achara finished well in the 30th minute to reduce the deficit to 2-1 and give Bray plenty of encouragement heading into the remainder of the game.
With heavy rain continuing to fall throughout the evening, conditions made for a fiercely contested encounter. Bray enjoyed spells of possession and pushed for an equalizer after the restart, while Wexford defended stubbornly to protect their one-goal advantage.
The closing stages saw the game take another twist as Wexford were reduced to ten men in the 82nd minute when Ryan Ritchie was shown a second yellow card. Deep into stoppage time, Jamie Wynne also received his marching orders after picking up a second booking, leaving the hosts with nine players for the final moments.
Despite applying late pressure against the two-man advantage, Bray was unable to find a breakthrough as Wexford held firm to claim a 2-1 victory at Ferrycarrig Park
