Cork City maintained their impressive promotion push with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Bray Wanderers at Turner’s Cross on Friday evening. 

 

The hosts couldn’t have asked for a better start, taking the lead inside six minutes. Ruairí Keating was in the right place to finish and give Cork an early advantage, allowing Barry Robson’s side to settle into the game. 

 

Bray responded with spells of possession but struggled to create clear-cut opportunities against a disciplined Cork defence. The home side looked threatening whenever they broke forward, with Sean Maguire and Cillian Murphy providing energy in attack, while Greg Bolger controlled the tempo in midfield. 

 

Cork carried their one-goal lead into the interval and continued to dictate proceedings after the restart. Their second goal arrived early in the second half when Keating calmly converted from the penalty spot after the hosts were awarded a spot-kick, doubling both his tally for the night and Cork’s advantage. 

 

With a two-goal cushion, Cork managed the contest effectively. Bray searched for a route back into the game but found chances difficult to come by, as the league leaders remained organised and limited the visitors’ attacking threat. 

 

The victory extended Cork City’s excellent run of form and strengthened their position at the summit of the First Division. Bray, meanwhile, were unable to build on recent positive results and left Turner’s Cross empty-handed despite their efforts. 

 

The result keeps Cork City firmly on course in the promotion race, while Bray Wanderers will look to bounce back in their next league outing against Athlone Town next Friday night at the Carlisle Grounds.
