Match Report – Bray Wanderers 2 Treaty United 1
St. Patrick’s Athletic 2 Bray Wanderers 1
Leinster Senior Cup, Tuesday January 21, 2024
Ricmond Park

Two goals in four first minutes late in the first period saw Bray go down to St. Patrick’s Athletic in their first outing in the PTSB Leinster Senior Cup.
New-look Wanderers put on a brave display against the holders at Richmond Park last Tuesday before losing their opening Group C fixture in the competition 2-1.
The Seasiders handed four debuts to recent signings Thomas Considine, Cian Doyle, Jordan Tallon and Cian Curtis.
On the bench, Rhys Bartley, Calum Costello, Richard Ferizaj and Harvey Warren would all make club debuts as second half substitutes.
In a repeat of the Quarter Final last May at the Carlisle Grounds, the hosts started well.
Jimmy Corcoran was required to tip Aidan Keena’s seventh minute shot onto the post.
Seconds later, Cian Leavy fired a left footed drive from the right inside the box narrowly wide.
But the same striker did find the breakthrough in the 32nd minute.
Leavy embarked on a solo run off the right flank. He got into the 18-yard area and angled in low left footed shot from 12-yards.
The Saint’s doubled that lead in the 36th minute.
A right wing cross was not cut-out by the Wanderers defence. The ball came to Jake Mulraney off the left inside the area. He teed up Barry Crowe Baggley who turned and found the net with a ten-yard rising finish.
Just before the interval, the away side earned a lifeline – albeit somewhat fortuitously.
Billy O’Neill appeared offside when racing through off the left wing in the 42nd minute. He burst into the box but was brought down by the challenging Luke Turner.
Referee Rob Harvey produced a red card.
But from the penalty, Curtis saw his dead-ball saved by Joseph Anang.
However, from the resulting Tallon corner, Paul Murphy forced the ball over the line following a scramble.
Yet, the hosts almost hit back in the 44th minute.
Zach Elbouzedi broke off the right wing. But his attempt rebounded back off the post.
With both teams making changes at the interval, the Saint’s went close again in the 53rd minute as Corcoran made a fine leg block to thwart Keena.
Wanderers rallied after that.
On the hour mark, Seagulls sub Costello saw his deflected shot from the edge of the box go straight at Anang.
In the 78th minute, O’Neill spun off two defenders on the edge of the box. But his low effort smothered by the home keeper.
Then two minutes later at the other end, Corcoran pushed Conor Carty’s shot around the upright.
With seven minutes to go, after a miss-placed pass in the penalty area by the home side, O’Neill’s spectacular scissor kick missed the target.
St. Pat’s had previously defeated Inchicore Athletic FC 2-0 on January 18 at the Red Cow.
Bray are scheduled to travel away to Athlone Town (date still to be confirmed) while hosting Inchicore Athletic in their two remaining Group fixtures.
