Supporting Local Projects

The Seagulls in the Community is proud to work alongside a wide range of local groups and organisations to make a positive impact where it matters most. Together, we've already supported initiatives that promoted youth mental health, tackling homelessness, improving health and wellbeing, and protecting our environment.

Through any partnership, we aim to create meaningful change, offering support, resources, and a helping hand wherever it’s needed. Every project we’re involved in is a step towards building a stronger, more connected, and more resilient community – one where everyone has the opportunity to get involved to tackle important issues.

We may only be a small group of volunteers but we've already shown when we combine our efforts with people who share our community values, special things can be achieved!

What type of projects have the Seagulls in the Community supported so far?

Raising Awareness for Homelessness Last year we supporrted the Wicklow Celtic Supporters Club and Celtic FC Foundation who were planning a 'Sleep Out' to raise awareness for the homelessness crisis currently crippling communities around Ireland and County Wicklow. This is an annual project they organise alongside Celtic FC Foundation meaning our own football stadium, The Carlisle Grounds, was the perfect setting for this brave initiative.  On a cold November night the Carlisle Grounds was full of sleeping bags as members of the supporters group and other members of the community who wanted to get involved slept out homeless for a night. Our own local charity Whfiveloaves Bray who help support people without a home in the community benefited from the funds raised.

Supporting Youth Mental Health As part of European Mental Health Week in 2024, Bray Wanderers and our Football & Social Responsibility (FSR) Team hosted a special event “Onside for Youth Mental Health”. We invited youth teams from four great local clubs - Greystones United, Cabinteely, Ardmore Rovers, and Wolfe Tones Youth Club to play full 11 a side matches in the Carlisle Grounds, on the pitch where many of these young players usually support their league of Ireland club from the stands.  The event was organised on the same weekend as Darkness into light to raise awareness for Mental Health and to acknowledge the value and importance of football when it comes to tackling mental health issues. Leading up to the event our FSR Officers Dermot O’Brien and Robbie Doyle spoke about how football can play important role around the issue.

SPIN Youth - Promoting Inclusion in Sport among minorities Last year club volunteers Ude & Guesh who are students of Bray Institute Of Further Education (BIFE) took on the challenge to particpate in 'Spin Youth' an EU-funded initiative whose mission is to increase the participation of young people from diverse backgrounds, particularly migrants, refugees, and ethnic minorities in sport.  This was part of a broader aim to build inclusive, and discrimination-free sporting environments that welcome diversity and equality. The Seagulls in the Community continue to support their project team who aim to promote youth-led knowledge creation, and empower young people in the designing, delivery, and decision-making processes within sport to increase participation from diverse backgrounds. Together we're raising awareness of the issue among local sport organizations, and helping this young group of students build the capacity to engage diverse youth effectively in sport in future roles.
