What is Down Syndrome Futsal?

Down Syndrome Futsal is a fun, inclusive way to give people with Down syndrome the chance to experience playing the beautiful game. It’s a fantastic way for players to stay active, grow in confidence, and connect with others who share a love for the sport.

Playing Futsal also helps improve balance, coordination, and communication – all while building friendships that often stretch far beyond the pitch. The smaller, indoor setting makes it easy for players to get involved and enjoy plenty of touches on the ball, no matter their experience level.

Backed by the FAI’s Football For All initiative, it's all about creating a positive space where every player feels valued, supported, and a sense of beloinging to the football community. As part of our commitment to making football accessible to all, we’ve proudly set up the first Bray Wanderers Down Syndrome Futsal team.

Bray Wanderers Down Syndrome Team

Our BWFC Down Syndrome team are regualarly active in local futsal halls enjoying getting on the ball in a fun welcoming environement. Several weekends througout the year the FAI host national blitz comeptitions in FAI HQ. At every blitz the team respresent the club with passion and pride, and want to win as much as any Bray Wanderers team. Leading up to these events, volunteer coaches from our Seagulls in the Community will host several training sessions, often with our friends at Ballywaltrim Community Centre, to prepare a team to represent the Seagulls on the National stage.

These tournaments have been a huge success for the club and Irish football as a whole, making our beloved sport accessible to people who love the game as much as anyone. We've had some amazing days out at these tournaments which are full of fun, laughter, and moments of quality on the pitch too. We're extremely proud of all the participants in the programme who wear the Bray Wanderers jersey with pride. Whether you just want to get involved in the odd local game or represent us in national tounrnaments, fill the out the form below to learn more or contact Dermot at slo@braywanderersfc.ie
